today in western civ class we started off by going over the first few slides in the powerpoint because people were absent and late yesterday. after we reviewed that and the people took their notes that they needed, we went on to finish uo the powerpoint. in the last few slides it just talked about the rest of the stuff that was going to be o n the test tomorrow. i feel really prepared for it as i should because we have been doing a lot of review everyday in class and it has defiantly been helping me. i will also plan to look over the powerpoint tonight and review my notes for the test tomorrow.

5/29
at this time the church started to decline and weaken because:
-socially: the renaissance emphasis on the secular or worldly and the individual challenged church authority. the printing press really helped to spread these ideas so that was helpful.
-politically: come rulers especially the germans began to challenge the church's political power.
-economically: northern merchants represented paying church taxes.
what's so wrong with the church?:
1. corrupt leadership:
-renaissance era pops sent extravagantly on personal pleasure.
-pope alexander the second admitted that he had two male offsprings.
2. many priests and nuns were poorly educated and these people were supposed to teach other people.
who is Martin Luther:
-martin luther was born in germany
-he attends the university of erfurt; he calls this the whorehouse
-after getting his degree, he enrolls in law school; this was his fathers wish
-people at this time are dying of the plague as people should
everything changes:
martin was on his way back to school after a visit home (he was 21) he was caught in a thunderstorm on horseback and a lighting almost struck him off his horse and decided to become a monk. after he did this he drops out of law school. i really bet his dad was not happy about this decision.

class 5/23
the printing press:
-the chinese had invented the printing press centuries before but Johannes Gutenberg revolutionized it in Germany in the year 1439.
-this was one of the most important and impactful things made in history.
-we watched a video of a man who was showing a crowd of people how to do the printing press and he showed all of the steps that were put into it. it was a cool video and very educational!
-next we watched a video that explained all of the painting in the sistine chapel. that was cool too.
